Subaru’s ground breaking Boxer Turbo Diesel motor will go on sale in Europe early next year. The engine is the first production Boxer Turbo Diesel engine in the history of the car industry. Details of the motor were released at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which runs until later this month. The compact diesel has similar dimensions to Subaru's equivalent petrol engines and is designed to fit into the engine bay of all of Subaru’s current and future models, linked to a symmetrical All-Wheel Drive transmission.
The horizontally opposed layout offers a sporty and compact engine. The power train retains Subaru's low centre of gravity to provide good handling and road holding. With its compact and rigid construction, there is no need for a balancer shaft to reduce vibrations. The Boxer Turbo diesel is a two litre engine producing 110 kWs with good high revs throttle response. But more importantly it has a stump pulling 350 Nm of torque at low revs for strong pulling power. The Boxer Turbo Diesel has very low noise levels. And to meet current and future environment regulations it has a CO2 emissions level of 150 g/km. All initial production of the Boxer Turbo

Subaru is looking to the Boxer Turbo Diesel to boost its sales in the northern hemisphere. Subaru New Zealand plans to introduce diesel powered models to the local market in a couple of year’s time.
